Universal Pictures has brought on board director Justin Lin(Fast & Furious).  Lin directed the last four movies in the “Fast & Furious” franchise for the studio, the most recent of which, Fast & Furious 6 is the studio’s second highest-grossing film of the year.

Justin Lin will direct the sequel to the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy, the pic that kicked off storyline of Aaron Cross, the character played by Jeremy Renner. Renner is set to return as Cross. Frank Marshall and Captivate Entertainment’s Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner are also back as producers, and Lin also will produce through his Perfect Storm banner.

“Sherlock Holmes” scribe Anthony Peckham has written a treatment of the script.

“Legacy” grossed $276 million at the worldwide box office, a figure comparable to the first two films that starred Matt Damon as Bourne. The third Bourne movie grossed $442 million.

Bourne is a great character and franchise.  I hope that Lin can take the franchise to another level, much like Paul Greengrass did for The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).

Word on the street is that Universal is looking for Summer 2015 release for the next Bourne film.
