It’s being reported this morning by Page Six of the New York Post that Sean Combs, is teaming up with oscar winning producer Brian Grazer and his Imagine Entertainment company to produce a remake of director Abel Ferrara’s cult gangster classic King of New York. With Combs possibly playing the leading role.
Frank White(Walken), a recently released Crime Boss, reunites with his crew and attempts to take over the Drug Trade by wiping out all of his competitors, King Tito, Artie Clay and Harry Wong, to save a hospital in a low income neighborhood. Starring Christopher Walken, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes, Giancario Esposito, Steve Busemi Theresa Randle and Roger Guenveur Smith, this gritty crime story is one of my all time favorite movies.
Grazer told Page Six, “Sean optioned the rights to remake ‘King of New York’ for two years. The film is a cult classic, and it will be great to remake it. Our version won’t be exactly the same, but will have the same hard-core gangster feel. Sean wants to be in it, he was amazing in ‘Monster’s Ball,’ and such strong characters sit perfectly with him.”
Hopefully this remake will be as good as the original.
